| Vidder: kellygarrett312 Musical artist: the Kinks Character: Emma (some Steed/Emma) Vidder on LJ: unknown Vidder's website: her YouTube pageWhy this vid kicks ass:I hope no one minds me doing this a day early, given that tomorrow is Christmas and I won't have time, and seriously, this vid needs to be shared. There is a reason Emma is considered one of the sexiest TV heroines ever, and it has never been put better than this. kellygarrett312 sets a delightful mix of fight scenes, ship tease and general gorgeousness to the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," which both for the lyrics and swinging '60s' rock 'n' roll vibe is a perfect choice. Even if you're not familiar with The Avengers, this vid is a must-see. Watch Emma kick ass and look amazing doing it. Your eyes will pop along with Steed's. The Avengers: Emma Peel and the Kinks

| It is very very early on Christmas morning! Still one more sleep til Christmas properly, but Sam and I are up listening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve and Other Stories album. It is gorgeous. We are in Inverness. It is cold and it has been snowing on and off all evening. It started just as we were coming home from dinner, so we decided not to go to midnight mass at the Cathedral. We had an easy day today. We wandered around town, bought some food for tomorrow, made a booking for dinner and went to the Christingle service at the Cathedral. A Christingle is an orange with a red ribbon around it, four skewers with fruit lollies on the end and a candle stuck in it. Everything represents various parts of the story of Jesus, but it seems a little strange to me. And the kids eat the lollies off theirs as soon as they get back to their seats. But we did get to sing Away in a Manger and Once in Royal David's City. We arrived in Inverness late last night coming up from Caernarfon. Various of our trains (in total there were five of them and a walk between stations in Glasgow) were delayed. We were travelling for about twelve hours. They held the train at Perth for us so we got to Inverness before the hostel reception closed. I found a little magic growing crystal Christmas tree in the toy shop this morning, so we have that sitting on top of our presents. Presents! Also little chocolate puddings for dessert with lunch tomorrow because the supermarket wasn't selling little Christmas puddings. I suspect they had run out, although they hadn't run out of turkeys at 6pm. Anyway, I hope everyone has/is having a good Christmas. I'm thinking of you all. I should also direct you to Sam's blog: My Dark, Bitter Side is a Cartoon Fish. He is much better at keeping it updated than I am with mine, and you can up with where we are! | ifeel: cheerful |

| any minute now it will be christmas, so (pre-empting it slightly, perhaps): merry christmas to all, and to all a good... afternoon, good evening and goodnight (whichever is appropriate)(morning too, obviously, though i don't intend to see it). birthday very nice. my thanks to all who sent their greetings via LJ. it was momentarily ruined by the potential prospect of my having to walk home from the train station, as the roads were so bad that my mother wasn't willing to come and pick me up in the car. fortunately becca fought her way through the truly sensational weather england has been recently assaulted by, and managed to take me back, no problems, but my brother spent a very unpleasant three hours wheeling his suitcase through the snow. i was extremely relieved when i found i wouldn't have to do the same. the christmas holidays have thus far been extremely pleasant, much like today's episode of QI. lovely stuff. had some other things to say, but i can't remember what they are. firefox loaded in an obnoxiously slow manner for the LAST TIME on me today, and i am now using google chrome, which doesn't have so many spiffy add-ons, but does at least spring into action immediatley when i click on it. oh, yes, i remember. i was going to say about yuletide, which must open shortly (actually, it's just gone 12 here, merry christmas etc, again). there was some mix up over my gift fic, whereby it was loaded up incorrectly so that a) i could see it and b) it led me to marked as someone in need of a pinch hit. firstly, of course, i simply panicked because i'd been intending to edit my fic (although actually i ended up not doing much to it) and i thought they must all have been revealed, but then i calmed down and realised that there had been a mistake, and tried to contact the people in charge to let them know about it, but anyway, it looks like i'm going to get three gift-fics (at least) tomorrow, as a result. which is lovely, actually, thank you, yuletiders (particularly original yuletider, because i know what your fic is, even though i didn't read it because that goes against my principals, and i know it's something i will be deeply charmed by), if a bit embarrassing, because what with my board games and meeting up with people i haven't seen in a literal year, i haven't had time to write any extra ones. ah well. i've also been busy editing this ( Christmas Crackers by x_los and bagheera_san), which you might enjoy, if you enjoy that sort of thing (here taken to mean - UNIT christmas parties). let me now merely express the hope that doctor who doesn't embarrass me in front of my family...again, (i mean, i'm feeling positive, but there's always a bit of doubt) and wish you all an excellent 25th of december. | ifeel: full of good cheer |

| Merry Christmas BAH HUMGUG!
A friend at work had a "I saw this and thought of you moment" and thus I've spent the past two weeks wearing the above "BAH HUMBUG" hat to work XD It's made me feel about a gazillion times better about the fact it's Christmas and customers cannot manage their own prescrptions no matter how far in advance you tell them to order their goddamned tablets. (How much notice do you need to know that it's Christmas anyway?!) I'm thankfully finished work for the next four days and plan to frot out and spend the entire festive season stuffing myself with too much food, irn-bru, good company, and fic! Happy Holidays and Festive Greetings to all who celebrate! <33 | ifeel: calm |

| Who releases a vid in an obscure fandom at nearly midnight on Christmas Eve? ME, THAT'S WHO. Because it's burning a hole in my HD. So, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Have a vid! Title: Heroes of the Empire Video: Star Wars: the Clone Wars (animated series) Audio: Joey Starr Wars // DJ Zebra Summary: Explosions, lightsabers, the Imperial March and French rap. It's fun being a hero of the Empire. Editor's Notes: No knowledge of the show is really necessary for this; I cannot claim it has a plot. What it has is lightsabers, explosions, lightsabers and more explosions. ;) Download and streaming options available here.

| You guys, how incredibly awesome has house_stocking been? SO AWESOME, is the answer! Kudos and thanks to lauriestein for running it! I know that technically the reveal's not supposed to be until tomorrow, but frankly, tomorrow is yuletide, and I will be sleeping, eating, dreaming, and living yuletide. So, with apologies to the mods, I'm going to jump the gun a little. FIRST, let's talk about the AWESOME AND AMAZING PRESENT I GOT, which is--you guessed it!--awesome and amazing. It's gen, but I think the discerning reader (i.e. me) could happily read it as House/Foreman. It showcases this amazing conversation between Amber and Foreman, and I think it does a fantastic job with both their characterizations...and answered some very difficult-to-answer questions! In Dreams, (pt1) and (pt 2), by Anon. My anon mousie santa is my favourite, and if/when I know who zie is, I will praise hir even further! THANK YOU ANON MOUSIE SANTA. And second, here are the stocking-stuffers I wrote. Thank you to everybody who left me feedback, I appreciate it so much! Each of these is a double-drabble, and you can read them all on AO3, or else go to house_stocking and read them individually in each person's stocking, along with some other excellent ficlets that have been posted. | I hope that everyone has a good Friday/is having a good Friday/had a good Friday. For those who celebrate Christmas, I hope your celebrations are enjoyable. And for those forced into company with family you rarely see, I hope no one gets hurt. I'm in Scotland with the_fibber. It is snowing too hard for us to risk going to midnight mass. Almost as much for the cold as the snow itself. I'm sick. Like, weak and shivery, been to the pharmacist three times for various medicine, can't move without coughing sick. I was sick like this a month ago, starting the last day of my German course. I hate it. And I hate the feeling that it only happens because I'm stupid enough to get cold. Thank you to everyone who pinch hitted Yuletide, one of you has written a fic for my recipient. I'd feel guilt about failing if I had to energy to. I expect a good day tomorrow, though. We a found place we could book a table for dinner. There's a church service not horrifically early in the morning. We have panatone (a Christmas tradition in my parents' house), smoothie and porridge. And probably Tin Man. | ifeel: morose |

| Title: Making Right Author: Santa Recipient: moon_destinyPairing: McKay/Sheppard Rating: PG-13 Author's Notes: thank you to my wonderful beta, who provided such great insights, as well as her usual comma-wrangling help! Summary: . . . and since introspection's for the fucking birds, for the shrinks, for Nancy's friends, for that one guy who liked quoting poetry during sex, it's not surprising he stumbled over this without really knowing he wanted it, without acknowledging he'd been pulling Rodney's pigtails for four goddamn years. | Summary: Commodore Norrington and Captain Sparrow happen to come across a ship that may or may not be haunted. Rating: PG Disclaimer: The characters are not mine, and neither is much of the plot. A/N: Inspired by the X Files episode of the same title, from which many of the plot details have shamelessly been stolen. Here at my journal. | |

| Please, please, folks, if your story is over 1000 words, go in and edit it so the Collections field has the tag for Yuletide 2009 (yuletide2009), not Yuletide Madness, whether you are an assigned author, or not. There are a lot of 1000+ stories currently placed in the Yuletide Madness collection, and they should be moved!

| I'm off work and at my parents' house, where it's warm and cozy, in stark contrast to the freezing weather outside. There was a deep frost last night, and the world was gorgeous when I woke up this morning: there were spiders' webs hanging like beautiful, delicate stalactites from the eaves of houses. We don't get winter weather like that very often here.
I am SO EXCITED about yuletide. This is partly due to the sense of pride that comes with having successfully completed my assignment, and partly excitement at the thought of new fic written just for me, me, me to look forward to reading tomorrow. Actually, that's fics, plural, because my AO3 page says there are two gifts for me -- which I think must mean someone has written me a yuletide treat, which is filling me with glee. I've been perusing the giant list of unfilled prompts this evening, in case there's anything that leaps out at me, but I'm a bit stymied by not being at home, and therefore not having access to the source for some fandoms I might otherwise have a crack at. I've already had one conversation with Dad about a book I could have sworn he had a copy of, but he swears he doesn't.
I have been having slight trouble with one eye this week. Nothing major, but I had the constant feeling that there was something in it all the time, even though I couldn't see anything in it when I peered into the mirror. I stopped wearing my contact lenses, but after several days, it still wasn't getting any better, and it was *really* irritating me. I mentioned it to a friend I was having dinner with, and she proceeded to tell me the story of how she'd once had an infection in an eye which she hadn't sought medical attention for, and which ended up much more serious than it needed to be. Well, work was quiet, and my eye was annoying me a LOT by this point -- I had tried eye drops and bathing it, all to no avail -- so I made an appointment with the doctor, and went on Wednesday morning. He peered into my eye, turned my eyelid inside out (euch), and pronounced it infection-free. "Hold on," he said. He frowned. "I think you have an eyelash turned in the wrong way." He grabbed a pair of tweezers, yanked it out, and -- instant relief. I was so pleased that it wasn't until I was back in the car and driving to work that I realised I had gone to the doctor about an eyelash in my eye. This, I am sure, must rank as the most trivial thing I have ever been to see a medical professional about, and I feel suitably embarrassed. (In my defence, I really did think I might have an eye infection. Honest.)
Happy Christmas to all celebrating it!

| I've sent this to both lists (and my apologies to the recipient), but we had someone who had uploaded an unfinished story/the story was truncated by an early bug, so it didn't trigger as needing a pinch hit.
